Haikus

Haiku is a popular Japanese form of poetry which has spread around the world. The challenge of this short poem is to write a vivid image in  17 syllables. Its structural elements are

  • A stanza made of three verses of 5, 7, and 5 syllables.
  • Avoid the use of similes or metaphors
  • Refers to a season of the year.
  • must contain a kigo (a season word that indicates what season of the year the haiku is set)
This year my students wrote Who am I? Haikus. Enjoy them!
